Merida e-120 800 Mountain Bike Review | The most fun you can have on a bike!

Time to try something a bit different. The Merida e-120 800 e-mountain bike.

The chaps at The Forge Cycleworks, Ringwood, have been kind enough to let me try one of their pedelec’s and what a beast.

You may ask what the point of an electric mountain bike is? I certainly did. The reply, “try it and you’ll see.” So, try it I did!

They need to rethink the restrictions on e-bikes and bring us more in line with somewhere like the US where you can get more powerful twist and go bikes without the onerous implications of motorbike ownership.

Pheonix103 says:

Mad money for a bike. Although, I do think e-bikes generally though are a great way to help people get fit. Especially older people or anyone with health issues that perhaps wouldn’t normally consider cycling.

Jon Tait says:

Excellent video. Nice to see.something different. I’d love an E-bike but the cost is just prohibitive right now. Our local Forest, Dalby Forest, have E-bikes for hire so I’ll maybe give one a go next time.

sneekylinux says:

Might go and give them a visit next week as i do fancy an e-cycle but the price…wooo….on the other hand like you i use a hardtail but mine is an oversize frame so let’s see what they can do for a big guy like me….nice

Christopher Wain says:

Over priced boys toys…. If they get ice car off roads great!

Geoff Jones says:

I use one. It allowed me to continue biking after a little health issue, i think it’s called getting old! Also it opened up North Wales to me and as you mentioned you go to places you would never have gone before, I went for a folding EV bike in the end so I could throw it into the back of the car and disappear for the day.

Mark Gaudie Founder of Northwest England EV Owners says:

My friend paid £6000 for a pushbike with no motor and batteries. He’s into his cycling though. Personally I think spending that much on a bike is mental. But each to their own I guess.

Chris B says:

I’ve been e-bike commuting for a few months now and I love it. I rarely drive a car these days. Frankly, I can’t afford an EV and this is a way that I can avoid using an ICE vehicle in the mean time. It was also a fun DYI project converting my mountain bike using stuff I ordered from Amazon.

Kelvyn Bettridge says:

Just as I suspected, and I’m now a little apprehensive about an upcoming test next week. I might come away wanting one. Even worse, start to justify one. Thanks for the impression though all the same.

D Fearns says:

I bought an ebike because I hadn’t ridden a bike for 21 years and I will also start using it for a 9 mile commute specifically for the purpose of lowering my carbon footprint.
